New Peugeot 508

The Peugeot 508 is a large family car launched in 2010 by French automaker Peugeot. It replaces the Peugeot 407 as well as the larger Peugeot 607, for which no more direct replacement is scheduled. It shares its platform and most engine options with the second-generation Citroën C5: the two cars are produced alongside one another at the company's Plant, and in Wuhan, China for sales inside China. The 508 sedan is 4.79 m (189 in) long, while the 508 SW (station wagon) is 4.81 m (189 in) long.Compared to the Peugeot 407 the 508 has a shorter front overhang and a longer rear passenger compartment.

After a few initial leaked spyshots the first definitive details and images leaked to the web on 12 July 2010. Peugeot released additional information on 6 September 2010. The 508 was officially launched at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

PSA Peugeot Citroën will build the 508 in China in partnership with Dongfeng Motor, and plans to sell 65,000 units locally in 2012. It will be launched there on 10 August 2011.

It is reported Peugeot expects China to be the largest market for the car, at almost twice of what is expected to be sold in France. It will be the first time for the company to sell more in a country other than France for a model that is available in Europe.

Technical Highlights

The top GT version comes with a 201 bhp (150 kW; 204 PS), 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine which generates 338 lb·ft (458 N·m) of torque. It comes mated solely to a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox which offers manual shifts via paddles or a central selector.

Mona Lisa (also known as La Gioconda) is a 16th century portrait painted in oil on a poplar panel by Leonardo da Vinci during the Italian Renaissance. The work is owned by the Government of France and is on the wall in the Louvre in Paris, France with the title Portrait of Lisa Gherardini, wife of Francesco del Giocondo. It is perhaps the most famous painting in the world.

The painting is a half-length portrait and depicts a woman whose expression is often described as enigmatic. The ambiguity of the sitter's expression, the monumentality of the half-figure composition, and the subtle modeling of forms and atmospheric illusionism were novel qualities that have contributed to the painting's continuing fascination. It is probably the most famous painting that has ever been stolen from the Louvre and recovered. Few other works of art have been subject to as much scrutiny, study, mythologizing, and parody.

The Louvre, the biggest art museum in the world, has thousands of paintings, but its star attraction is the Mona Lisa, known in France as La Joconde.
The 500-year-old portrait was stolen in 1911, but returned to the Louvre after an Italian was arrested for its theft two years later.
It was doused with acid by a vandal in 1956 and later the same year a Bolivian damaged it again by throwing a stone at it.

Why Flamingos Stand on One Leg....

It is one of the simplest, but most enigmatic mysteries of nature: just why do flamingoes like to stand on one leg?

Flamingoes stand on one leg to regulate their body temperature.

Matthew Anderson and Sarah Williams are comparative psychologists based at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, US who are interested in the studying the evolution of behaviour.
"Flamingoes captured my attention for a variety of reasons," says Anderson.
"Scientifically speaking, their highly gregarious nature makes them an ideal species for investigating social influences on behaviour.
"Aesthetically speaking, they are large, beautiful, and iconic.

Anderson and Williams's research began by studying laterality in flamingoes: whether they show any preference over which side of their bodies they use for various tasks, just as a human may be right or left-handed.
They found that flamingoes prefer to rest with their heads on one side more than the other, and that which side a flamingo rests its head determines how aggressive it is toward others in the flock.

However, the researchers did find that flamingoes prefer to stand on one leg far more often when they are standing in water than when standing on land, they report in the journal Zoo Biology. The scientists ruled out each as a benefit of standing on one leg, as their research showed it took flamingoes longer, and therefore more energy, to move forward after resting on one leg than after resting on two.

"As water invariably draws away more body heat, this result supports the thermoregulation hypothesis," says Anderson.
In short, the birds stand on one leg to conserve body heat. If they put two legs in the water, rather than one, they would lose more heat than is healthy, particularly as they spend so much time wading. The birds also likely alternate which leg they stand on to avoid one leg becoming too cold.

"If they stood on one leg consistently, they would risk greater loss of body heat and potential tissue damage in the cold," says Anderson.

Kundasang War Memorial

Kundasang War Memorial and Gardens is Located behind the famous vegetable wholesale stalls .It is situated on the hill resembling a fort.

Before I return to East Malaysia form Sabah, after 4 memorable year of studying me and my friend tao Iong Aka “TAO FU” rented a Perodua Kelisa and drag our butts up to Kundasang for a photo taking trip as my friend just bought himself a new Cannon SLR camera.So on the way there were a lot of photo taking up and down keke etc……then we came to this place the Kundasing War Memorial.

Major G.S. Carter, D.S.O. (Toby Carter) a New Zealander employed with Shell Oil Co. (Borneo) initiated the building of the Memorial in 1962, together with the launching of Kinabalu Park; to remember the 2,428 Australian and British prisoners who died during the World War II at the Sandakan POW Camp, and the casualties of the 3 infamous forced death marches i.e. Sandakan-Ranau Death March from Sandakan to Ranau. On top of that, it is also a tribute to the many locals who risked their lives while releasing the prisoners of war.

Only 6 Australians recorded survived in this tragedy to tell their horror and no English survivors were recorded.The 'fort-like' Memorial was designed by a local architect by the name of J.C. Robinson.

It has 4 interlocking but separate gardens to represent the homelands of those who has died: an Australian Garden, a formal English Garden of roses, a Borneo Garden (on the oic on the left)with wild flowers of Kinabalu and at the top level is the 'Comtemplation Garden' with a reflection pool and pergola.

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, the Memorial was beautifully restored in 2005 privately by Mr Sevee Charuruks & with funding provided by the Malaysian Government.

The Gardens are replanted with flowers, particularly roses and rare orchids that include the much sought after valuable Paphiopedilum rothschildianum Rothschild's slipper orchids. The memorial is open to local and foreign visitors not only to view the perfect gardens but to remember those who sacrificed their lives for the Freedom of others.

After 10 years of selfless service, a man realized that he has not been promoted, no transfer, no salary increase no recommendation and that the Company is not doing any thing about it.
So he decided to walk up to his HR Manager one morning and after exchanging greetings, he told his HR Manager his observation. The boss looked at him, laughed and asked him to sit down saying;
My friend, you have not worked here for even one day.The man was surprised to hear this, but the manager went on to explain.

Manager:- How many days are there in a year?
Man:- 365 days and some times 366

Manager:- how many hours make up a day?
Man:- 24 hours

Manager:- How long do you work in a day?
Man:- 8am to 4pm. i.e. 8 hours a day.

Manager:- S! o, what fraction of the day do you work in hours?
Man:- (He did some arithmetic and said 8/24 hours i.e. 1/3(one third)

Manager:- That is nice of you! What is one-third of 366 days?
Man:- 122 (1/3x366 = 122 in days)

Manager:- Do you come to work on weekends?
Man:- No sir

Manager:- How many days are there in a year that are weekends?
Man:- 52 Saturdays and 52 Sundays equals to 104 days
